The Cercle Litteraire met on Saturday Oct 28 to discuss the book ‘Stupeur et Tremblements’ by Amelie Nothomb. It is the very amusing story of the author’s experience working in Tokyo for a Japanese firm in the 1990’s. Led by Liz Guillen who provided numerous references, the group members discussed cultural differences , especially in the workplace, between Japan and the West.
The next meeting will be held on Dec 2 with the book Petit Pays by Gael Faye, set in Burundi during the recent civil war, and winner of several awards in France including the Prix Goncourt de Lyceens. Read the book (in French) prior to the meeting and come and join what will be a lively discussion.
